Seriously though, besides controlling noise, the most overlooked benefit is the locking of the rear seal plate to prevent it from rotating and wiping out the o-ring prematurely. Also, the replacement of the o-ring itself is a huge improvement. Most of the core sprockets that I disassemble have o-rings that are brittle and break apart when removed; this is typical of any high-mileage engine and it's only a matter of time before they would develop an oil leak. I could go on and on, but I might be a bit biased.
